DIRECTOR-WRITER-PRODUCER
Jonny Silver produces his own films and works as a director-for-hire in both English and French sectors of the Canadian media industry. He grew up in Toronto and started making experimental films while attending the Ontario College of Art and Design. His professional career began with, KUBOTA, his film profile of sculptor-musician, Nobuo Kubota, produced by the National Film Board. Silver went on to make profiles of other notable cultural figures including, media guru, Derek de Kerchove, singer, Salome Bey, and dancer-choreographer, Marie-Josée Chartier. LONELY CHILD, his feature on the life and music of avant-garde composer, Claude Vivier, premiered at the Montréal Film Festival and was shown around the world. He has directed doc, drama and performing arts and has been involved in co-ventures with both language studios of the NFB, CBC and TVO, and on international co-productions with former Yugoslavia and the French speaking broadcasters of Europe. Silver’s highly individualistic style of story-telling found its way into prime-time television, where he directed doc and drama segments for forensic series, EXHIBIT ‘A,’ (CTV) and FORENSIC FACTOR (Discovery), and for three seasons of the crime series, 72 HOURS (CBC).
